The company will comply with the European Unions new rule for universal USB-C battery charging, likely ditching its decade-old Lightning cable. "Is that Apple employees? It's an Apple employee. Apple announced the iPhone 15 lineup today, and here’s the big takeaway: The iPhone 15 will have a USB-C charging port instead of Apple’s proprietary Lightning port, bringing the iPhone in. Some Apple devices - such as the iPad Pro and Mac laptops - use USB-C (left) while the iPhone uses Lightning (right) By Cristina Criddle. It automatically backs up all photos and videos, as well as streams videos on the go. iPhone 15 models have a USB-C connector, which allows you to charge and connect to a variety of devices, including Mac, iPad, AirPods Pro (2nd generation), external storage devices, and displays. This particular SanDisk flash drive is designed to transfer your files effortlessly so you can quickly free up space on your iPhone. USB-C is a universally accepted standard that enables charging, syncing data, and playing audio and video. "Of course, there's some people who moved to Kansas and said, 'This is where I want to be,'" he added. SanDisk is a reliable brand in the memory world. "Our whole culture has been about being in the same place together, building products in tight interdisciplinary teams, and that's who we are," Federighi said, adding that the petitions publicly posted online come from "I don't know, a 10th of a percent of Apple employees." When Apple began talking about plans to return to the office last year, a group of employees pushed back saying they were worried about health and safety issues, particularly for those for whom exposure to the COVID-19 virus could cause harm to them or a family member. And that could see many more future iPhone users willing to take full advantage of their Apple Music subscription and ‘go hi-res’. Without the need for a camera adaptor, playing hi-res on an iPhone would require just one ‘add on’ and one purchase – just as the case is for Android phones today. During its launch event, Apple conspicuously avoided saying anything about how fast the iPhone 15 USB-C port is, but the spec sheet says its only the slow USB 2.0. After all, such an effort would be wasted for those glued to wireless headphones or who use wired headphones but don’t care about sound quality enough, and where would the financial incentive be, too?īut even if it stays out of the external DAC game, an iPhone 15 wouldn’t need any adaptor to work with the current crop of third-party USB-C DACs, a market which I can only see getting bigger following an iPhone with USB-C announcement. Much less likely is Apple vastly improving the iPhone’s DAC and audio output stage to the extent that it fully does justice to hi-res audio without any extra hardware. So will Apple now work on a slim USB-C DAC dongle in the same vein as the Astell&Kern HC3 that supports hi-res up to 24-bit/192kHz and really will give the iPhone 15 a big boost in sound quality? Possibly. ![]() Astell&Kern HC3 DAC dongle with USB-C connection (Image credit: Astell & Kern) ![]()
